Bloomberg integration

Please note that Resolver Systems Ltd and Bloomberg LP are not connected in any way, we simply provide a program that can act as a client of their data services. For problems with your Bloomberg service, please contact them.

Installation

In order to use Resolver One with Bloomberg's data feeds, you will need a subscription to Bloomberg; this tends to be extremely expensive, and is infrequently used outside financial firms. If you do not know whether you have it installed, you probably don't. If you do have it installed, and can start the terminal from your start menu, these instructions tell you how to get it working in Resolver One.

Resolver One's integration with Bloomberg works through an interface layer (called the ".NET Desktop API") that Bloomberg themselves provide. You can install this interface layer by following these steps:

  • On your Bloomberg terminal
    • Type WAPI
    • Click "API SDK download centre" from "Express links" at the left.
    • Find "Bloomberg Desktop API SDKs" (on the left). NB whatever you do, do not install the Server API - this has caused problems with our clients in the past.
    • Click the download icon (a box with a red arrow above it pointing down at it).
    • The download should happen relatively quickly.
  • Install the API. The only bit you need is the .NET desktop API.
  • Restart Resolver One.

Once this is done, the Bloomberg functions should be enabled.

Use

Users of Bloomberg in Excel will be familiar with the Resolver One functionality. Once it is installed, you gain access to several new functions: BDS, BLP and BLPH, and a few variants suitable for different situations. These retrieve data from Bloomberg and display it in the Resolver One grid. Some retrieve realtime data, which "ticks" - that is, as updates come in from Bloomberg, the spreadsheet is recalculated to show the changes. See the full API documentation for more details.
