Bloomberg integration

This topic covers how to use Resolver One with Bloomberg's data feeds. Access to this feature is only enabled if you have purchased the optional Financial Data Feeds add-on for Resolver One.

Resolver Systems Ltd and Bloomberg LP are not connected in any way; we simply provide a program that can act as a client for their data services. For problems with your Bloomberg service, please contact them.

Before you begin

In order to use Resolver One with Bloomberg's data feeds, you will need a subscription to Bloomberg.

(This subscription tends to be extremely costly, and is rarely used outside financial firms. If you do not know whether you have a subscription, then you probably don't.)

Installation

If you do have a Bloomberg subscription, these instructions tell you how to get it working in Resolver One.

Resolver One's integration with Bloomberg works through an interface layer (called the ".NET Desktop API") that Bloomberg themselves provide. To install this interface layer...

  1. Close Resolver One.

  2. From the Windows Start menu, open your Bloomberg terminal.

  3. Type WAPI.

  4. In Express links (on the left), click "API SDK download centre".

  5. Find the Desktop Pre-3.x API SDK Package section, slightly down the page, and the click the download icon (a box indicated by a red arrow). The download completes relatively quickly.

(Whatever you do, do not install the Server API - this has caused problems with our clients in the past.)

  6. Click the download icon (a box indicated by a red arrow).

    The download completes relatively quickly.

  7. Install the API. The only bit you need is the .NET desktop API.

  8. Restart Resolver One.

The Resolver One Bloomberg functions are enabled.

Using the Resolver One Bloomberg functions

Users of Bloomberg in Microsoft Excel will be familiar with the Resolver One functions: BDS; BLP; BLPH; plus few a variants suitable for different situations. These functions retrieve data from Bloomberg and display it in the Resolver One grid. Some retrieve real-time data, which "ticks"—that is, recalculates the spreadsheet as updates come in from Bloomberg.

See the full API documentation for more details.
